How to Update Apps on Your Phone

Why Update Apps?
App updates include:
- Security fixes (important!)
- Bug repairs
- New features
- Performance improvements
iPhone: Updating Apps
Update Individual Apps
- Open the App Store
- Tap your profile picture (top right)
- Scroll to see available updates
- Tap Update next to each app
Update All Apps
- Open the App Store
- Tap your profile picture
- Tap Update All
Enable Automatic Updates
- Open Settings
- Tap App Store
- Enable App Updates under Automatic Downloads
Android: Updating Apps
Update Individual Apps
- Open Google Play Store
- Tap your profile picture (top right)
- Tap Manage apps & device
- Tap Updates available
- Tap Update next to each app
Update All Apps
- In Manage apps & device
- Tap Update all
Enable Automatic Updates
- Open Play Store
- Tap profile picture
- Tap Settings
- Tap Network preferences > Auto-update apps
- Choose Over WiFi only (recommended)
When to Update
Update immediately:
- Security-related updates
- Work apps like Teams, Outlook, OneDrive
- Games and entertainment apps
- Optional feature updates
Managing Updates
WiFi vs Mobile Data
Updates can be large. To save data:
- Update on WiFi only
- Check "WiFi only" in auto-update settings
- Download updates when connected to office or home WiFi
Storage for Updates
If you can't update due to storage:
- Delete apps you don't use
- Clear cached data
- Move photos to cloud storage
- Free up space, then retry update
Troubleshooting
Update won't download:
- Check your internet connection
- Restart the App Store/Play Store
- Restart your phone
- Check you have enough storage
- Try deleting and reinstalling the app
- Check for device compatibility issues
- Contact IT if it's a work app

Priority apps to keep current:
- Microsoft Teams
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Authenticator
- OneDrive
- Your company's specific apps
