    Common Teams Audio Problems

Audio issues can be frustrating. Here's how to fix the most common problems.

    Others Can't Hear You

    Check 1: Are You Muted?

Look at the microphone icon in Teams:

    • If it has a line through it, you're muted
    • Click it to unmute

    Check 2: Correct Microphone Selected?

    • Click the three dots (...) in the meeting
    • Click Device settings
    • Under Microphone, select the correct device
    • Speak and watch the level indicator move

    Check 3: Microphone Permissions

Your browser or app may be blocking the microphone:

    Windows:

    • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone
    • Ensure apps can access your microphone
    • Check Teams is allowed
    Mac:
    • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy
    • Click Microphone
    • Ensure Teams is checked

    Check 4: Physical Connections

    • Is your headset plugged in properly?
    • Is the mute switch on your headset off?
    • Try unplugging and replugging

    You Can't Hear Others

    Check 1: Volume Up?

    • Check your computer volume is not muted
    • Check headphone volume
    • Look for a volume control on your headset

    Check 2: Correct Speaker Selected?

    • Click the three dots in the meeting
    • Click Device settings
    • Under Speaker, select the correct device

    Check 3: Test Your Audio

    Before meetings:

    • Click your profile picture in Teams
    • Click Settings > Devices
    • Click Make a test call
    • Follow the prompts to test your audio

    Echo or Feedback

If others hear their own voice echoed back:

    Solution 1: Use Headphones

Echoes often happen when using laptop speakers and microphone together. Headphones prevent this.

    Solution 2: Turn Down Volume

Loud speakers can feed back into the microphone.

    Solution 3: Only One Device

Make sure you've only joined the meeting from one device.

    Choppy or Robotic Audio

    Check Internet Connection

    • Move closer to your WiFi router
    • Close other programs using the internet
    • Check if others in the office have the same issue

    Reduce Bandwidth Usage

    • Turn off your video temporarily
    • Close browser tabs you don't need
    • Ask others to turn off video if still having issues

    Quick Fixes to Try

    • Restart Teams - Close and reopen the app
    • Leave and rejoin - Sometimes fixes glitches
    • Restart computer - Clears many issues
    • Try different device - Use phone audio as backup
