    What "Disk Full" Means

Your computer's storage (hard drive or SSD) is full or nearly full. You can't save new files or install updates until you free up space.

    Check Your Storage

    Windows

    • Open File Explorer
    • Click This PC
    • See storage bars under each drive
    • Red bar = critically low space

    Mac

    • Apple menu > About This Mac
    • Click Storage
    • See colour-coded breakdown

    Quick Fixes

    1. Empty Recycle Bin

    Deleted files still take space:

    • Right-click Recycle Bin
    • Click Empty Recycle Bin
    • Confirm

    2. Clear Downloads Folder

    Old downloads accumulate:

    • Open Downloads folder
    • Sort by date
    • Delete files you no longer need
    • Empty Recycle Bin

    3. Run Disk Cleanup (Windows)

    • Search for Disk Cleanup
    • Select your drive
    • Check items to delete:
    - Temporary files - Recycle Bin - Thumbnails
    • Click OK

    4. Clear Browser Cache

Browsers store lots of temporary data:

    • Open browser settings
    • Find Clear browsing data
    • Select Cached images and files
    • Clear

    Finding What's Using Space

    Windows

    • Settings > System > Storage
    • See breakdown by category
    • Click categories to see details
    • Remove what you don't need

    Mac

    • Apple > About This Mac > Storage
    • Click Manage
    • See recommendations
    • Review categories

    Freeing More Space

    Uninstall Unused Programs

    Windows:

    • Settings > Apps > Installed apps
    • Find programs you don't use
    • Click Uninstall
    Mac:
    • Open Applications folder
    • Drag unused apps to Trash
    • Empty Trash

    Move Files to Cloud

    OneDrive Files On-Demand:

    • Move files to OneDrive
    • Right-click > Free up space
    • Files stay in OneDrive but don't use local space

    Delete Large Files

Find and remove large files you don't need:

    • Old videos
    • Outdated backups
    • Duplicate files

    Prevention

    Save to Cloud

Use OneDrive instead of local storage:

    • Files don't fill your drive
    • Access from anywhere
    • Automatically backed up

    Regular Cleanup

    Monthly:

    • Empty Recycle Bin
    • Clear Downloads
    • Review large files
    • Uninstall unused apps

    When to Contact IT

If you can't free enough space:

    • May need a larger drive
    • May need to move to cloud storage
    • May need to archive old files
    Contact helpdesk@netlumait.com.au or call 1300 521 162.
