    What Does "Access Denied" Mean?

This error means you don't have permission to access a file, folder, or resource.

    Common Causes

    • You don't have permission to the file
    • The file is restricted to certain users
    • The file is in use by another program
    • Your login session expired
    • Network permission issues

    Solutions to Try

    1. Check If You Should Have Access

    Ask yourself:

    • Is this file meant for me?
    • Am I in the right team or group?
    • Did someone share it with me?
If you're supposed to have access, contact the file owner or IT.

    2. Sign Out and Back In

Your permissions might not have loaded:

    • Sign out of your computer
    • Sign back in
    • Try accessing the file again

    3. Close Other Programs

The file might be open elsewhere:

    • Close any programs that might be using the file
    • Check if you have the file open in another window
    • Try again

    4. Check Your Network Connection

    For network files:

    • Verify you're connected to the network
    • Connect to VPN if working remotely
    • Try accessing again

    5. Request Access

    If it's a shared file:

    OneDrive/SharePoint:

    • You may see "Request access" button
    • Click it to ask the owner
    • Wait for approval
Network drives: Contact IT to check your permissions.

    Specific Scenarios

    "Access Denied" to a Folder

    • You may have permission to some folders but not others
    • Ask the folder owner about access
    • Contact IT if you need regular access

    When to Contact IT

    Contact IT if:

    • You should definitely have access
    • You had access before but now don't

    • You need access for your work

    What to Tell IT
