How to Clear Storage on Your Phone

When Storage Gets Low
Low storage can cause:
- Apps won't update
- New photos won't save
- Apps crash or run slowly
- Phone becomes sluggish
Check Your Storage
iPhone
- Open Settings
- Tap General > iPhone Storage
- See what's using space
Android
- Open Settings
- Tap Storage
- See breakdown by category
Quick Ways to Free Space
1. Delete Unused Apps
Apps you haven't used in months take up space:
iPhone:
- Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- See apps sorted by size
- Tap an app and choose Delete App
- Settings > Apps
- Find apps to remove
- Tap Uninstall
2. Clear App Cache
Some apps accumulate cached data:
Android:
- Settings > Apps > [App Name]
- Tap Storage
- Tap Clear Cache
3. Remove Old Photos and Videos
Photos and videos often use the most space:
- Delete blurry or duplicate photos
- Remove old screenshots
- Delete videos you've shared elsewhere
4. Delete Downloaded Files
Downloads accumulate over time:
iPhone:
- Open Files app
- Browse Downloads folder
- Delete unneeded files
- Open Files app
- Open Downloads
- Delete old files
5. Clear Message Attachments
Old messages with photos/videos take space:
iPhone:
- Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- Tap Messages
- Review large attachments
- Delete old conversations
- Open Messages app
- Delete old threads with many images
Cloud Storage Tips
Enable Photo Backup
Back up photos to the cloud:
OneDrive:
- Open OneDrive app
- Settings > Camera Upload
- Enable
Use Streaming Instead of Downloads
For music and videos, stream instead of downloading to save space.
How Much Space Do You Need?
Keep at least 1-2GB free for:
- App updates
- New photos
- System operations
