Sharing Your Screen in Google Meet
Screen sharing (called "presenting" in Meet) lets you show your screen content to meeting participants.
Starting Screen Share
Step 1: Join the Meeting
First, join your Google Meet call as normal.
Step 2: Click Present
- Look at the bottom toolbar
- Click Present now (icon looks like a screen with an arrow)
Step 3: Choose What to Share
You have three options:
Your entire screen:
- Shows everything on your screen
- Useful when switching between applications
- Be careful: participants see everything including notifications
- Shows only one application window
- Good for presentations or specific apps
- Other windows remain private
- Shows only one browser tab
- Includes audio from that tab (for videos)
- Best for web-based content with sound
Step 4: Select and Share
- Click your choice
- Select the specific screen/window/tab
- Click Share
Stopping Screen Share
To stop presenting:
- Click Stop sharing at the bottom of Meet, OR
- Click Stop presenting on the floating toolbar, OR
- Click the Present now button again
Tips for Better Presentations
Before Sharing
- Close unnecessary tabs and applications
- Turn off notifications (or use Do Not Disturb)
- Clean up your desktop if sharing entire screen
- Open all needed files in advance
During Sharing
- Tell participants what you are about to show
- Use your cursor to point at things
- Speak slowly and pause for questions
- Check chat for questions you might miss
Audio Considerations
If sharing a video or audio:
- Choose A tab instead of window
- Check Share tab audio when prompted
- Test audio levels beforehand
Sharing on Mobile
Screen sharing works differently on mobile:
Android
- Tap the three-dot menu
- Select Share screen
- Confirm the prompt
iPhone/iPad
- Tap the three-dot menu
- Select Share screen
- Start a screen broadcast
Troubleshooting
"Could not start presenting"
- Check browser permissions for screen recording
- Try a different browser (Chrome recommended)
- Restart your browser
- Confirm you clicked Share after selecting
- Check you did not minimise the shared window
- Try stopping and starting again
- Use A tab option, not window
- Check Share tab audio is enabled
- Only Chrome browser tabs share audio
