How to Reset Your Microsoft 365 Password

Resetting Your Microsoft 365 Password
If you have forgotten your password or need to change it for security reasons, follow these steps.
If You Know Your Current Password
Change Password in Microsoft 365
- Go to portal.office.com and sign in
- Click your profile picture (top right)
- Click View account
- Click Security info or Password
- Click Change password
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new password twice
- Click Submit
If You Have Forgotten Your Password
Self-Service Password Reset
If your organisation has enabled self-service password reset:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 sign-in page
- Enter your email address
- Click Forgot my password or Can't access your account?
- Follow the verification steps (text, email, or authenticator app)
- Create a new password
Contact Your IT Team
If self-service reset is not available:
- Contact our helpdesk at helpdesk@netlumait.com.au
- Or call 1300 521 162
- We will verify your identity and reset your password
Password Requirements
Microsoft 365 passwords typically require:
- Minimum 8 characters
- Mix of uppercase and lowercase letters
- At least one number
- At least one special character
Tips for Strong Passwords
Do:
- Use a passphrase (e.g., "Coffee$Morning2026!")
- Use a password manager
- Make it unique for each account
- Use personal information (birthdays, names)
- Reuse passwords across accounts
- Share your password with anyone
After Resetting Your Password
You will need to update your password on:
- Your computer (if using Windows sign-in with Microsoft 365)
- Your phone email app
- Other devices signed into Microsoft 365
