Printing Double-Sided
Double-sided (duplex) printing saves paper and is better for the environment.
Check If Your Printer Supports Duplex
Not all printers can print double-sided automatically. Check with IT if you're unsure.
Automatic Duplex Printing
Windows
- Open your document
- Press Ctrl + P
- Click More settings or Printer Properties
- Look for Print on Both Sides or Duplex
- Choose your option:
- Click Print
Mac
- Press Command + P
- Click Show Details if needed
- Find Two-Sided option
- Choose your flip direction
- Click Print
Manual Duplex (No Automatic Duplex)
If your printer doesn't have automatic duplex:
Step 1: Print Odd Pages
- Open Print dialog
- In Pages, select Odd pages only
Step 2: Reload Paper
- Take the printed pages
- Put them back in the tray (check orientation)
- The blank side should face the right way to print on
Step 3: Print Even Pages
- Open Print dialog again
- Select Even pages only
- Check Reverse if pages print in wrong order
Choosing Flip Direction
Flip on Long Edge (Standard)
- Use for normal documents
- Pages flip like a book
- Best for portrait orientation
Flip on Short Edge
- Use for landscape documents
- Pages flip like a notepad
- Best for calendars or presentations
Setting Double-Sided as Default
Save time by making duplex your default:
Windows
- Go to Settings > Printers & scanners
- Click your printer > Printing preferences
- Set Duplex or Two-sided as default
- Click OK
Mac
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners
- Select your printer
- Click Options & Supplies > Options
- Set duplex default if available
