How to Join a Google Meet Video Call

Joining a Google Meet Call

Google Meet is Google's video conferencing tool, integrated with Gmail and Google Calendar.

Method 1: Join from Calendar Event

The easiest way to join:

• Open Google Calendar
• Click on the meeting event
• Click Join with Google Meet
• Your browser opens Meet
• Click Join now

Method 2: Join from Email Invite

If you received an email invitation:

• Open the calendar invitation email
• Click the Join with Google Meet link
• Click Join now when Meet opens

Method 3: Join with Meeting Link

If someone sent you a Meet link:

• Click the link (format: meet.google.com/xxx-xxxx-xxx)
• Your browser opens the meeting
• Click Join now

Method 4: Join with Meeting Code

If you have a meeting code:

• Go to meet.google.com
• Enter the code in the "Enter a code or link" field
• Click Join
• Click Join now

Before Joining: Check Your Settings

The preview screen lets you:

Check Your Video

• See how you look on camera
• Turn camera on/off
• Adjust lighting if needed

Check Your Audio

• Select microphone
• Select speakers
• Turn microphone on/off

Virtual Backgrounds (Optional)

• Click the three dots
• Select Apply visual effects
• Choose a background or blur

During the Meeting

Essential Controls

• Microphone button: Mute/unmute yourself
• Camera button: Turn video on/off
• Present now: Share your screen
• Raise hand: Get the host's attention
• Chat: Send text messages
• Leave call: Exit the meeting

Screen Sharing

To share your screen:

• Click Present now at the bottom
• Choose what to share:

- Your entire screen: Everything visible - A window: One application - A tab: One browser tab

• Select the item and click Share

Joining from Mobile

Using the Google Meet App

• Download Google Meet from App Store or Google Play
• Open the app
• Tap the meeting from your calendar, or
• Tap Join with a code and enter the meeting code

Using the Calendar App

• Open the Google Calendar app
• Tap the meeting
• Tap Join with Google Meet

Troubleshooting

Cannot see or hear others?

• Check your internet connection
• Ensure camera/microphone permissions are granted
• Try a different browser (Chrome works best)

Others cannot hear you?

• Check you are not muted
• Check your microphone is selected correctly
• Speak closer to your microphone
