    How to Install Microsoft 365 on Your Computer

    Installing Microsoft 365

    If you need the desktop apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), here's how to install them.

    Check If Already Installed

    Before installing, check if you already have them:

    • Click Start (Windows)
    • Search for "Word" or "Excel"
    • If they appear, you're already set

    Installing Microsoft 365

    Step 1: Go to Office.com

    • Open your web browser
    • Go to office.com
    • Sign in with your work email and password

    Step 2: Start Installation

    • Click Install apps (top right corner)
    • Click Microsoft 365 apps
    • A file will download

    Step 3: Run the Installer

    • Open the downloaded file (usually in Downloads folder)
    • Click Run or Open
    • Click Yes if asked to allow changes

    Step 4: Wait for Installation

    The installer will:

    • Download all the apps
    • Install them automatically
    • This may take 10-20 minutes

    Step 5: Sign In

    When installation completes:

    • Open any Office app (like Word)
    • Sign in with your work email
    • Follow any setup prompts

    What Gets Installed

    The standard installation includes:

    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft PowerPoint
    • Microsoft Outlook
    • Microsoft OneNote
    • Microsoft Access (PC only)
    • Microsoft Publisher (PC only)

    Activating Your Subscription

    The first time you open an app:

    • You may be asked to sign in
    • Use your work email
    • Your subscription is verified automatically

    Troubleshooting

    Installation won't start:

    • Check your internet connection
    • Try a different browser
    • Disable antivirus temporarily
    Not enough space:
    • Free up at least 4GB of disk space
    • See our guide on freeing up storage
    Already have an older version:
    • The installer usually handles this
    • Older versions are upgraded

    Mac Installation

    The process is similar:

    • Go to office.com
    • Sign in
    • Click Install apps
    • Open the downloaded .pkg file
    • Follow the installation wizard
