    How to Use Microsoft Word Online

    What is Word Online?

    Word Online is Microsoft Word in your web browser. You can:

    • Create and edit documents anywhere
    • Access files from any computer
    • Collaborate with others in real time
    • Save automatically to OneDrive

    Accessing Word Online

    Method 1: Office.com

    • Go to office.com
    • Sign in with your work email
    • Click the Word icon

    Method 2: OneDrive

    • Go to onedrive.com (or open OneDrive)
    • Navigate to a Word document
    • Click to open it in Word Online

    Creating a New Document

    • Go to office.com
    • Click Word
    • Choose Blank document or a template
    • Start typing

    Basic Features

    Formatting Text

    Use the toolbar at the top:

    • Bold (Ctrl + B)
    • Italic (Ctrl + I)
    • Underline (Ctrl + U)
    • Font and size options
    • Text colour
    • Alignment

    Adding Elements

    The Insert menu lets you add:

    • Tables
    • Pictures
    • Links
    • Page breaks
    • Headers and footers

    Saving

    Word Online saves automatically to OneDrive. You'll see "Saved" at the top of the screen.

    Sharing and Collaboration

    Sharing a Document

    • Click Share in the top right
    • Enter email addresses
    • Choose Can edit or Can view
    • Click Send

    Real-Time Collaboration

    When others are editing:

    • You'll see their cursor
    • Their changes appear instantly
    • Everyone sees the latest version

    Opening in Desktop Word

    For advanced features:

    • Click Editing in the toolbar
    • Select Open in Desktop App
    • Word on your computer opens the file

    Word Online vs Desktop Word

    Word Online is great for:

    • Quick edits
    • Collaboration
    • Access from any device
    • Simple documents
    Desktop Word is better for:
    • Complex formatting
    • Mail merge
    • Advanced features
    • Offline work

    Tips for Word Online

    • Use Ctrl + S to force save (though it auto-saves)
    • Collaborate by sharing, not emailing documents
    • For complex work, use desktop Word
    • Your recent documents are always available at office.com
