What is Image Generation in Slides?

Gemini in Google Slides can create custom images based on your descriptions. This helps when you:

    • Need visuals for abstract concepts
    • Cannot find the right stock image
    • Want consistent illustration styles
    • Need quick placeholder images
Note: Image generation requires Google Workspace plans that include Gemini.

    Accessing Image Generation

    Step 1: Open Google Slides

    • Create or open a presentation
    • Navigate to the slide where you want an image

    Step 2: Access Gemini

    • Click Insert > Image > Help me create an image, OR
    • Look for the Gemini/sparkle icon in the toolbar
    • Or right-click and look for AI options

    Creating Your First Image

    Step 1: Describe Your Image

In the prompt box, describe what you want:

    • "A modern office building at sunset"
    • "A team collaborating around a table, illustration style"
    • "Abstract background with blue and green waves"

Step 2: Choose a Style (If Available)

    Some versions offer style options:

    • Photography
    • Illustration
    • Watercolour
    • Vector
    • Background

    Step 3: Generate

    Click Create or Generate.

    Step 4: Review Options

    Gemini typically generates multiple options:

    • Review the generated images
    • Click to select your preferred image
    • Click Insert to add to your slide

    Tips for Better Images

    Be Descriptive

Instead of: "A person working" Try: "A professional woman working on a laptop in a bright modern office"

    Specify Style

    • "Minimalist illustration of..."
    • "Photorealistic image of..."
    • "Flat design icon showing..."
    • "Watercolour painting of..."

    Include Context

    • Colours: "with blue and white colour scheme"
    • Mood: "bright and optimistic"
    • Perspective: "birds eye view"
    • Setting: "in an Australian business environment"

    Request Consistency

For multiple images in one presentation:
    • Use similar prompts
    • Specify the same style
    • Mention "consistent with previous image"

    What Works Well

    • Abstract concepts and backgrounds
    • Illustrative scenes
    • Generic business imagery
    • Icons and simple graphics
    • Nature and landscapes

    Limitations

    • May not perfectly match your vision
    • Text in images often looks wrong
    • Specific logos or branding not possible
    • Real people's likenesses not generated
    • Some content may be refused

    Editing Generated Images

    After inserting:

    • Resize using corner handles
    • Crop using the crop tool
    • Adjust position on slide
    • Apply image formatting options
For major changes, generate a new image.

    Alternatives If Gemini Cannot Help

If generated images don't meet needs:

    • Use Google Images search (check licensing)
    • Try stock image sites
    • Use simple shapes and icons
    • Create diagrams with Slides' built-in tools

    Privacy Considerations

    • Prompts and generated images are processed by Google
    • Follow your organisation's AI usage policies
    • Generated images may not be suitable for all uses
