A computer that will not start can be alarming, but there are several things you can try before calling IT support.
Check the Basics First
Step 1: Check Power and Cables
- Make sure the power cable is firmly connected
- For laptops, check the battery is charged or try with the charger plugged in
- Look for any lights on the computer that indicate power
- Try a different power outlet
Step 2: Check Your Monitor
Sometimes the computer is running but the screen is not working:
- Check the monitor is turned on
- Check the display cable is connected
- Try pressing a key or moving the mouse to wake the screen
- For laptops, try pressing Fn + F7 or a similar display toggle key

If your computer keeps restarting and showing Automatic Repair:
- Let it attempt repair at least twice
- If it fails, select Advanced options
- Try System Restore to go back to a working state
- Contact IT if System Restore is not available

Safe Mode starts Windows with minimal drivers and can help diagnose problems.
