How to Block Spam and Junk Email in Outlook

Dealing with Spam and Junk Email
Spam wastes time and can be dangerous. Here is how to keep your inbox clean.
Marking Email as Junk
Outlook Desktop
- Right-click on the spam email
- Click Junk > Block Sender
Outlook Web
- Select the spam email
- Click Junk in the toolbar
- Choose Block or Junk
Blocking Specific Senders
Outlook Desktop
- Click Home > Junk > Junk E-mail Options
- Click the Blocked Senders tab
- Click Add
- Enter the email address or domain
- Click OK
Outlook Web
- Click Settings > View all Outlook settings
- Click Mail > Junk email
- Under Blocked senders and domains, click Add
- Enter the address to block
- Click Save
Unsubscribing from Newsletters
Many unwanted emails are newsletters you accidentally signed up for:
- Open the email
- Scroll to the bottom
- Look for an Unsubscribe link
- Click it to stop receiving emails
Checking Your Junk Folder
Sometimes legitimate emails end up in Junk:
- Check your Junk folder regularly
- If you find a good email there:
Recognising Dangerous Spam
Be cautious of emails that:
- Ask for passwords or personal information
- Have urgent or threatening language
- Contain unexpected attachments
- Come from addresses that look slightly wrong
Reporting Phishing
If you receive a suspicious email:
- Do not click any links
- Do not reply
- Forward it to helpdesk@netlumait.com.au
- Delete the email
