    Security When Working Remotely

Working from home requires extra attention to security.

    Secure Your WiFi

    Home Router Security

    • Change default password - The admin password on your router
    • Use WPA3 or WPA2 - For WiFi encryption
    • Update router firmware - Check for security updates
    • Use a strong WiFi password - Not your address or obvious words

    Avoid Public WiFi

    When working outside home:

    • Don't access sensitive work data on public WiFi
    • Use VPN if you must use public networks
    • Consider using your phone's hotspot instead

    Use VPN

    Always use VPN when:

    • Accessing work files
    • Using work applications
    • On any network outside the office
VPN encrypts your connection and protects your data.

    Protect Your Devices

    Keep Devices Secure

    • Lock your screen when stepping away
    • Don't share your work computer with family
    • Keep software updated - Security patches are important
    • Install approved software only - Check with IT first

    Physical Security

    • Don't leave laptop in car
    • Keep devices out of sight at home
    • Use screen privacy filters in public

    Password Security

    Strong Passwords

    • Use unique passwords for each account
    • Use a password manager
    • Enable two-factor authentication

    Don't Reuse

Never use your work password for personal accounts.

    Be Careful with Data

    Sensitive Documents

    • Print only when necessary
    • Shred any printed confidential documents
    • Don't leave documents visible on screen

    File Storage

    • Save work to OneDrive, not your personal computer
    • Don't copy work files to personal USB drives
    • Don't email work files to personal email

    Watch for Scams

Phishing attacks increase when people work remotely:

    • Be suspicious of unexpected emails
    • Verify requests through other channels
    • Don't click links in suspicious emails
    • Report phishing to IT

    Common Remote Work Scams

    • Fake IT support calls
    • "Urgent" password reset emails
    • CEO fraud (fake requests from executives)

    Video Call Security

    • Use waiting rooms for external meetings
    • Don't share meeting links publicly
    • Be aware of what's visible on camera
    • Mute when not speaking
