How to Schedule Emails in Gmail

Why Schedule Emails?
Scheduling emails lets you:
- Write emails when it suits you, send when it suits them
- Respect recipients' working hours
- Prepare communications in advance
- Send reminders at optimal times
Scheduling an Email in Gmail
Step 1: Compose Your Email
- Open Gmail
- Click Compose
- Write your email as normal (recipient, subject, message)
Step 2: Schedule Send
Instead of clicking Send:
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the Send button
- Select Schedule send
Step 3: Choose When to Send
Gmail offers quick options:
- Tomorrow morning (8:00 AM)
- Tomorrow afternoon (1:00 PM)
- Monday morning (8:00 AM) - appears on weekends
Step 4: Confirm
Click Schedule send to confirm.
Viewing Scheduled Emails
Find your scheduled emails:
- In the left sidebar, click Scheduled
- You will see all emails waiting to be sent
Editing a Scheduled Email
To make changes:
- Go to Scheduled folder
- Open the email
- Click Cancel send
- The email moves back to Drafts
- Edit as needed
- Schedule again or send immediately
Cancelling a Scheduled Email
- Go to Scheduled folder
- Open the email
- Click Cancel send
- The email moves to Drafts
- Delete from Drafts if no longer needed
Scheduling on Mobile
The Gmail mobile app also supports scheduling:
- Compose your email
- Tap the three dots menu
- Select Schedule send
- Choose your date and time
Tips for Scheduled Emails
- Consider time zones: If emailing interstate or overseas, calculate their local time
- Avoid weekends: Business emails sent on weekends may get buried
- Morning is often best: Emails sent early morning often get better responses
- Review before scheduling: Double-check recipient and content
Limitations
- Maximum scheduling is one year in advance
- Scheduled emails count against your sending limits
- If your account is inactive, scheduled emails may not send
