How to Scan Multiple Pages into One PDF

Creating Multi-Page PDF Scans
Often you need to scan several pages into one document. Here's how.
Using the Document Feeder
If your printer has an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):
At the Printer
- Stack all pages face-up in the feeder
- Select Scan to Email or Scan to Folder
- Choose PDF as the format
- Press Start
- All pages scan into one PDF automatically
Tips for Document Feeders
- Remove staples and paper clips
- Don't exceed maximum capacity
- Pages should be flat, not folded
- All pages same size works best
Using the Flatbed Scanner
If you must use the glass (flatbed):
At the Printer
- Place first page on glass
- Select Scan and choose PDF
- Scan the page
- When prompted "Scan another page?" select Yes
- Place next page on glass
- Repeat until done
- Select No or Done when finished
- The PDF is created with all pages
From Your Computer
Windows Scan app:
- Open Windows Scan
- Set file type to PDF
- Scan first page
- Click Add page for each additional page
- Save when complete
Using Scanning Software
Many printers have companion software:
HP Smart
- Open HP Smart on your computer
- Select Scan
- Scan first page
- Click Add Page
- Repeat for all pages
- Save as PDF
Other Printer Apps
Canon, Epson, Brother, and others have similar apps with multi-page scanning features.
Combining PDFs After Scanning
If you've already scanned separate files:
Using Online Tools
Websites like smallpdf.com can combine PDFs:
- Upload your PDF files
- Arrange in order
- Download combined PDF
Using Adobe Acrobat
If you have Adobe Acrobat:
- Open Acrobat
- Tools > Combine Files
- Add your PDFs
- Rearrange as needed
- Combine
Tips for Clean Scans
- Clean the scanner glass
- Align pages properly
- Use consistent settings for all pages
- Check each page scanned correctly
