The Blue Screen of Death
A blue screen (BSOD) means Windows encountered a serious error and had to stop.
What to Do Immediately
1. Don't Panic
Blue screens look scary but are often one-time events.
2. Note the Error Code
If possible, write down:
- The STOP code (like 0x0000007E)
- Any file name mentioned (like ntfs.sys)
- The QR code can be scanned for info
3. Wait or Restart
If it shows progress:
- Wait for Windows to collect information
- It may restart automatically
- Wait 2-3 minutes
- Then hold power button for 10 seconds
- Turn computer back on
After the Blue Screen
If It Restarts Normally
- Save any open work
- Write down what you were doing before the crash
- Continue working but watch for repeat issues
If It Blue Screens Again
- Note the error code
- Try restarting in Safe Mode
- Contact IT
